چکیده

We prove the existence of transmission eigenvalues corresponding to the inverse scattering problem for isotropic and anisotropic media for both scalar Helmholtz equation and Maxwell’s equations. Considering a generalized abstract eigenvalue problem, we are able to extend the ideas of Päivärinta and Sylvester [15] to prove the existence of transmission eigenvalues for a larger class of interior transmission problems. Our analysis includes both the case of a medium with positive contrast and of a medium with negative contrast provided that this contrast is large enough. The Existence of an Infinite Discrete Set of Transmission Eigenvalues

We prove the existence of an infinite discrete set of transmission eigenvalues corresponding to the scattering problem for isotropic and anisotropic inhomogeneous media for both the Helmholtz and Maxwell’s equations. Our discussion includes the case of the interior transmission problem for an inhomogeneous medium with cavities, i.e. subregions with contrast zero.

Bounds on positive interior transmission eigenvalues

This paper contains lower bounds on the counting function of the positive eigenvalues of the interior transmission problem when the latter is elliptic. In particular, these bounds justify the existence of an infinite set of interior transmission eigenvalues and provide asymptotic estimates from above on the counting function for the large values of the wave number. They also lead to certain imp...

Transmission Eigenvalues

The scattering of a time-harmonic plane wave in an inhomogeneous medium is modeled by the scattering problem for the Helmholtz equation. A transmission eigenvalue is a wavenumber at which the scattering operator has a non-trivial kernel or cokernel. Because many sampling methods for locating scatterers succeed only at wavenumbers that are not transmission eigenvalues, they have been studied for...

Not Return Your Form to the above Organization

We consider the scattering of time harmonic electromagnetic plane waves by a bounded, inhomogeneous, anisotropic dielectric medium and show that under certain assumptions a lower bound on the norm of the (matrix) index of refraction can be obtained from a knowledge of the smallest transmission eigenvalue corresponding to the medium. Numerical examples are given showing the efficaciousness of ou...

Transmission eigenvalues in inverse scattering theory

In the past few years transmission eigenvalues have become an important area of research in inverse scattering theory with active research being undertaken in many parts of the world. Transmission eigenvalues appear in the study of scattering by inhomogeneous media and are closely related to non-scattering waves. Such eigenvalues provide information about material properties of the scattering m...
